“I’m Somali/African American and I can totally relate to this. My parents are orthodox Muslims so I was raised to take responsibility for men’s actions through indirect means. From 8 years old and up I literally couldn’t buy pants without my grandma and father “approving” of it first. And since I had a pear shape, the pants my size were never loose enough for them. I’ve had to sometimes change outfits at events because my father was on the verge of throwing a hissy fit because my outfit was “too tight.”
Wonderful podcast, so excited for the next ones.”
