Tennis With An Accent: Shanghai Masters Preview With Nick Nemeroff
Listen now
Description
The Tennis With An Accent podcast previews the Shanghai Masters before the release of the tournament draw. Saqib Ali and Matt Zemek are joined by guest Nick Nemeroff, a contributor to TWAA’s podcasts and roundtables. Nick wrote for Tennis With An Accent at Wimbledon and has written for other websites and publications in the past. He is a tennis instructor for young players at Court 16 in Brooklyn. The podcast begins with a brief discussion about Bernard Tomic, the unexpected winner in Chengdu. The hosts ask Nick about the autumn portion of the ATP season and why so many players are tired or hurt at this time of most tennis seasons. The discussion then moves to Shanghai, where Nick talks with Matt and Saqib about Dominic Thiem’s evolution on hard courts and the challenge posed by Shanghai’s faster surface. Does Roger Federer or Novak Djokovic represent the bigger puzzle for Thiem to figure out in Shanghai? Nick also explains what Sascha Zverev needs to do to take the next step in his career, and how new coach Ivan Lendl can help the German in that pursuit. What can one learn from Lendl’s work with Andy Murray? How much can that relationship influence the way Lendl coaches Zverev? Nick also comments on Kevin Anderson and underscores why this 2018 season has been such an impressive display for the South African. What matchup does Nick want to see in the coming months, possibly at the 2019 Australian Open? Anderson is part of that conversation.
