Listen now
Description
Forbes ranked Uganda seventh of the countries with the highest internet penetration in Africa in 2018. Thanks to technology, in particular, the smartphone has changed the way people shop. E-commerce is rapidly growing in Uganda, and it is expected to shortly become the second largest online market in the East Africa region, after Kenya. This is mainly due to our rapid growth in telecommunications users and like you said the widespread use of mobile money payments. Ron Kawamara - then the CEO of Jumia Uganda held our hand in understanding the wider ecosystem, Jumia’s role on the continent, tools of the trade, terms of determining how profitable digital strategy can be, his take on scaling a business for real-time delivery, his recommendations on policy to Gov’t and private sector to accelerate his industry, the next big move and misconception about e-commerce in Uganda.
