“As a long-time practitioner of aikido, I’ve listened to my share of podcasts, visited lots of chat rooms and Reddit threads, and picked YouTube clean. I always encounter the same problem: the presenters, regardless of rank, tenure, affiliation, or experience, persistently give the overwhelming impression that they’ve Figured It Out. One wonders after witnessing their arguments how they manage to tolerate us mere mortals who have yet to crack the code.
This podcast presents a refreshing, long overdue contrast: Ito Sensei and his co-hosts ask questions and answer them, not with the presumption that they’ve solved anything so much as a genuine curiosity and a humble generosity that leads them to share their perspectives based on experiences as students and teachers. The result left me immersed in reflecting on my own frame of reference, not to necessarily challenge, but to compare very human journeys towards discovery of something ephemeral. They share their truth to give us something to consider, and do so in a way that avoids insisting on any dogma.
Mature listeners will find this production nourishing. Others might take it for a test drive to see if they’re ready to look at practice more seriously.”
