Description
Episode 26 of The Artists Contemporary Podcast is now available to stream from Spotify, Apple and google podcast. In this weeks episode Anna is joined by London based artist India Nielsen. India studied at Slade and Royal College of Art and speaks about the differences between the two art schools and how they developed her practice. India talks about the hierarchy in different disciplines within art school and how she moved away from performance work and into painting. India’s work is inspired by the internet and as a child growing up in the age of the internet. She uses memories and experiences to create modern and dynamic paintings that balance between figuration and abstraction. In 2020 India took part in a duo exhibition with @yuliusprime curated by @campbell.hector. Both artists studied at the same institutions and the exhibition reflected on their own practices. India was also exhibited in Fight or Flight by Roman Roads at The Columbia in 2020. This exhibition took place in the old bakery at the hotel and was a group show that brought a range of different artists together exploring materiality. India is currently exhibited in her first ever solo show Crybaby at I’m Labor in Tokyo, Japan. Please visit their Instagram/website to learn more about the exhibition. Follow @indianielsen to learn more about her practice and to keep up to date with all her amazing new works and projects.
