And in the end…there can be only one
As I big fan of football and the Beatles, this podcast is a winner for me, even if the Fabs themselves had little interest in the beautiful game. The premise is simple: each episode 4 randomly selected Beatles songs from the episode before are pitted against each other, giving the hosts the opportunity to discuss and share opinions and memories of each tune before then selecting their favourite. Sometimes they agree, sometimes not, in which case a penalty shootout style tiebreaker is used to decide which song wins and which three are eliminated from the competition. It’s only five heats in as I write this, but already some heavyweights have been drawn against each other and defeated, while some of the minnows have survived to fight another day, such is the nature of knockout World Cups! Each episode is short, the hosts humour and rapport is engaging, as is their obvious affection and interest for the Beatles catalogue. The World Cup is such an obvious stage for the biggest band in history, the Brazil of the music world, and I’m looking forward to see which songs make the final and hold the ultimate trophy aloft. Highly recommended for Beatles fans looking for some fun.

This is a really enjoyable podcast, who two fun presenters working through every song, including many I'd never heard of!Read full review »

After listening to Rob for so long on the Dr Who Show I thought I’d give this a go. A latecomer to the podcast I’m enjoying catching up now

Jono and Rob are on a mission to find the best Beatles song by pitting them against each other in a “World Cup” format. The episodes are short and snappy with fun conversations about some of the best known as well as the more obscure efforts from the Fab Four. Highly recommended!
