Tell us about it #TheBeautyPodcastWithSali GLOSSARY: Melasma: a common skin condition in which brown or greyish patches of pigmentation develop, usually on the face. It is more common in women, particularly during pregnancy. I Ichthyosis: the term used to describe continual and widespread scaling of the skin. It may be genetic or acquired during life.  Tretinoin: A Topical medication often used to treat acne. Salicylic Acid: a beta hydroxy acid that offers exfoliating benefits and can support acne-prone skin. Lactic Acid: an alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) specifically used to treat hyperpigmentation, age spots, dull and uneven complexion. Hyaluronic Acid: a carbohydrate molecule and a natural component of skin with a the capacity to bind and retain water molecules and provide moisturising benefits.  Glycolic acid: an alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA) that offers exfoliating benefits. Products that contain Glycolic Acid are used often to treat scarring, skin discolouration and signs of aging, like fine lines and wrinkles. Rosacea: a common skin condition which usually occurs on the face. Rosacea tends to affect the cheeks, forehead, chin and nose, and is characterised by persistent redness caused by dilated blood vessels, small bumps and pus-filled spots similar to acne. Water soluble AHA: AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acid) is a water-soluble exfoliant that mainly works on the surface of the skin. Oil Soluble BHA: BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acid), on the other hand, is oil-soluble, meaning that it’s able to penetrate deep into your skin. L'Ascorbic acid: Vitamin C. Synthetically derived or found naturally in fruits and vegetables, vitamin C (l-ascorbic acid) is lauded for its powerful antioxidant benefits. Melanocytes: melanin-producing neural crest-derived cells located in the bottom layer of the skin's epidermis, the middle layer of the eye , the inner ear, vaginal epithelium, meninges, bones, and heart. Milia: are small, bump-like cysts found under the skin. They are usually 1 to 2 millimetres in size. They form when skin flakes or keratin, a protein, become trapped under the skin. Milia most often appear on the face, commonly around the eyelids and cheeks, though they can occur anywhere.
