Omissions
I’ve listened to all episodes so far of this gripping yarn- The Belgrano diary, and it’s a good piece of forensic research by Mr O’Hagan, but two admissions jump out at me that I think should have been included. One, the Belgrano was an American battlecruiser bought by the Argentines and the Americans would have full technical knowledge of its capabilities eg the thickness of its armour plating. I’m pretty sure that Information would’ve been passed to the British and onto the Conqueror were there was discussion about which torpedo to use and they would’ve certainly requested all information available about the Belgrano to help them make that decision. This is not revealed. The other important point was the issue of the Peruvian peace proposal, it either was or wasn’t a material influence on the possible outcome of the war and needed to be resolved and it wasn’t .The budget seem to allow Mr O’Hagan to go to the Caribbean surely it could have been stretched to find the relevant minister in Peru to get his opinion of what happened. I think that would’ve been very interesting to hear

First couple of episodes were interesting. However quickly falls into a tedious conspiracy theory that is just disrespectful to the men and women of our armed forces who gave their lives to protect our fellow citizens.

Can’t wait for episode two. Amazing how history repeats itself, with the same half truths, conspiracies, arguments, struggles!

Multi-layered, informative and, at times, deeply moving; an exemplar of nonfiction audio storytelling.
