Description
In recent months, a number of phishing schemes have led to the hacking of taxpayer profiles and the takeover of businesses. The major goal of scammers is to change banking information and login credentials so they may later file fake value-added tax (VAT) returns that are paid to the scammer's bank account.  Host Bruce Whitfield speaks to Jean-Louis Nel, tax attorney at Van Huyssteens Commercial Attorneys, on how to safeguard your account and why and how the South African Revenue Service (Sars) will hold a taxpayer accountable if the fraud originates within the firm.
