“I wanted to love this show, and I keep coming back, trying to give it another chance. Almost everything about this show is done well- the length of the episodes, the topics of discussion, etc. The problem is the people on the show. There is zero diversity.
But it’s their podcast, you might say. Why does it have to be diverse? Why can’t it be a bunch of dudes who all seem to be interchangeable?
A few reasons.
First, the very nature of the show is the ranking of aspects of Disney World. But when the demographic is so singular, it’s not particularly accurate. In general I’m pro-representation, but in this case, it seems genuinely counterproductive to have a show like this made of people with relatively similar Disney experiences.
Also, the show, more often than not, is just a discussion of the things that they all agree to be true. There is little diversity of opinion, and it’s not expressive of the larger Disney experience. Have you ever been on any Disney forums? There are constant arguments. That’s half the fun and there is no “right” answer. Without that, it just feels like I’m being lectured to, instead of being part of a discussion.
This was exemplified by an all-male cast ranking best and worst bathrooms. It’s fine, as long as you’re extremely explicit that this is just your opinion, but the show hinges on giving advice and ranking. It’s hard to imagine that my list would even resemble theirs.
And in a recent episode, they issued an apology about that. It was appreciated, but without any call to action, it’s just an acknowledgement, and looking ahead, this podcast just frustrates me, so I have to let it go”
