In this inaugural episode of The B-Side, Leslie and Corey talk to Rashawn Ray from the University of Maryland, College Park, and Jean Beaman from Purdue University.   They discuss Oprah Winfrey’s Presidential prospects, Trump’s comments on “sh*thole” countries, and racial disparities in healthcare delivery. Jean Beaman from Purdue               Jean Beaman is an Assistant Professor from Purdue in the Department of Sociology. She received her Ph.D., M.A., and B.A. degrees from Northwestern University. Prior to joining Purdue, she had postdoctoral fellowships at Duke University and the European University Institute (Florence, Italy). Her research addresses how marginalized individuals conceptualize their social locations, based on race, ethnicity, citizenship, and socioeconomic status. Rashawn Ray from the University of Maryland, College Park               Rashawn Ray is an Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Maryland, College Park. Ray obtained a Ph.D. in Sociology from Indiana University in 2010. From 2010-2012 he was a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Policy Research Scholar at the University of California, Berkeley/UCSF. Ray’s research addresses the mechanisms that manufacture and maintain racial and social inequality. His work also speaks to ways that inequality may be attenuated through racial uplift activism and social policy.
