This butterfly is excited to be speaking with Claire Nasike Akello. Claire is a Wangari Maathai Scholar and leads the food campaign at Greenpeace Africa, where she trains local communities on ecological agriculture, food and seed sovereignty as adaptive mechanisms to climate change, campaigns for their adoption by smallholder farmers, and its inclusion in agricultural policies in Kenya. She has previously worked for A Rocha Kenya, as an Environmental education officer and won the Wangari Maathai Scholarship Award in 2015, for her environmental education work with school children in Budalangi. Claire is also the founder of the Hummingbird Foundation; an initiative that seeks to improve nutrition among school-going children through the establishment of organic food gardens in rural and urban areas. She is a graduate of the Technical University of Kenya with a first-class degree in Environmental Resource Management and currently pursues a Masters of Science in Management of Agroecosystems and Environment at The University of Nairobi. In her free time, she loves reading, dancing, and writing articles on her eco-blog which has been nominated twice for Kenya bloggers awards (BAKE) in 2015 and 2018.
