Timmons was the founding member of 98 Degrees. While studying Psychology at Kent State, Timmons decided to move to Los Angeles to pursue a career in entertainment. Although he received several acting jobs (including a commercial for the U.S. Navy), his passion belonged to music and he formed a singing group subsequently. Timmons (along with Justin Jeffre, and brothers Drew and Nick Lachey (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nick_Lachey) ) formed independently and were later signed to the Motown label (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motown_Records) in the mid-1990s. In 1997, they released their first single "Invisible Man" which peaking at number-twelve in the Billboard Hot 100 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billboard_Hot_100) . After building popularity with their appearance in the movie Mulan (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mulan_(1998_film)) , singing "True to Your Heart" which had them collaborate with Stevie Wonder (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stevie_Wonder) , their success broke out in late 1998 with their album 98 Degrees and Rising (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/98_Degrees_and_Rising) , which included the hit singles "The Hardest Thing (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hardest_Thing_(98_Degrees_song)) ", "I Do (Cherish You) (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Do_(Cherish_You)#98_Degrees_version) " and "Because of You (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Because_of_You_(98_Degrees_song)) ".
