A meandering, cliched mess
The core story at the heart of this podcast is really interesting - the problem is, you don’t get to hear about it too often on this show. Instead, you are subjected to a meandering mashup of paranormal cliches and tropes, many of which have entire episodes dedicated to them. Perhaps if you’ve no knowledge of the paranormal this is interesting - but to most listeners, we have no need for entire episode long diatribes about “what is sleep paralysis? What are nightmares? What is The Old Hag?” If you’ve any familiarity with the paranormal, these are all familiar topics. And even then, are only tangentially related to the core story, in that, “I had sleep paralysis a few times” occurs. Also, the writing and narration is really subpar. The writing is full of cliches (“someone….or some THING!!”). There are parts too that sound like they’re written by a 9th grader writing an essay (“The Oxford Dictionary defines X as…”). The narration is similarly frustrating, clearly being read off a piece of paper in a slow, monotone voice, overly-enunciating every. single. word. It’s maddening. It’s almost sing-song like in it’s attempt at being spooky; instead it comes off as grating. No one wants to listen to someone slowly read off a piece of paper. Talk like a human. It just works better. You don’t need to attempt to be Edgar Allen Poe here. The ACTUAL story, in the rare moments you get to actually hear about it, is this podcasts only saving Grace. It’s incredibly compelling and legitimately spooky; it’s too bad there’s so little of it here. Overall, the podcast could have been 1/3 as many episodes. The majority of the episodes are random tangents having little or nothing to do with our core story (the first episodes is almost entirely dedicated to her long, loooong story about her abusive ex boyfriend….only to make the point that she needed roommates. Didn’t need a 25 minute backstory for that). It’s a good story but honestly….if you feel like fast forwarding through most of it, you should…there’s a lot of fat here. You won’t miss much.

I’m always on the lookout for scary and spooky podcasts. I found out about this podcast from Jim Harold’s campfire. This may have been one of my favorite podcasts I’ve found in a very long time. It is put together very well. I am definitely looking forward to season 2 and hopeful for many more....Read full review »

Wow
I really enjoyed this podcast. Excellent voice. The premise (if this is indeed just a story) of a young lady’s remembrance of strange experiences that her and her friends experienced while living in a rental in Kent Ohio makes this very unusual and spooky.
