While an increase in initiatives and media discussion around men's mental health have led to more men speaking up, there remains considerable work to be done to resolve gender inequity in this space. The number of suicide deaths remain approximately three times higher in males than females and men are far more likely to die as a result of alcohol and drug use. Only a quarter of men said they would be likely or very likely to seek help from a mental health professional if they experienced an emotional or personal problem and almost 25% said they would not seek help from anyone.  Doctor Cate Howell OAM is a GP, therapist, and educator. She works as a General Practitioner with Defence, and also has a private practice focusing on mental health and various teaching activities.  She also co-authored a book with her son called The Changing Man: A Mental Health Guide. She joined Luke Grant to discuss how the taboo around men's mental health is starting to dissipate and what still needs to be done to stop the horrific phenomenon of people taking their own lives.
