“Love the podcast so far, love to hear from current and former players! Question I have is your opinion on the hack a dj rules. A lot of people have been saying that getting rid of it encourages kids to think that making free throws is not important. But coming from the perspective of a high school basketball coach, I feel the rules the way they are discourage kids from learning to play good defense. The clippers have had a top tier offense the past few years, and I think that is one reason why people foul DJ so much, because they think it is a better option than you hitting a 3 or getting a Blake poster. If you guys couldn't score, no one would foul DJ. And on top of that is the impact he has in getting you open by setting screens, and his defensive presence, they are just trying to get him off the floor because they can't beat you guys with DJ in the game. But so much emphasis is being placed on teaching kids how to shoot free throws as a reason to keep the rules the way they are, what do you think, especially since it impacts your team directly? Personally I think it should be changed to taking away the away from ball intentional foul, if they have the ball or are in the play that is a lot different than fouling a player in the back court that doesn't have the ball. Wanted to get your opinion. Thanks, great pod, great shot last night, Go Clippers!”
