Tapela's Story
Listen now
Description
Memory Tapela Banda is a young social entrepreneur from the southern African nation of Zambia. Growing up in her local community, Tapela became friends with two girls who were living with Albinism, and in the course of their friendship, Tapela witnessed first-hand, the intense discrimination and exclusion these girls suffered from their community. This encounter was one that would change Tapela's entire life as she could not understand why people would be treated differently because of a condition they were born with and couldn't control. In 2017, Tapela launched the Zambian Albinism Matter Organization, a group dedicated to safeguarding the rights and wellbeing of people living with Albinism. Six years later, the organization has done some truly remarkable things and continues to grow.
