Gives a sense of New Zealand fifty years ago along with a gripping dark story of yet another narcissistic cult leader leading the well-intentioned down the garden path. As an American with a lot of NZ communal living in my past, it’s also like a travelogue. It would be more fun if it wasn’t so...Read full review »

This is an interesting podcast containing various people’s stories. However, because it jumps all over the place in time, it would be helpful to better understand where each person’s story fits in the timeline. One in particular seems like she was there a lot longer than she was. It also quickly...Read full review »

The actual podcast is great but the constant Stuff adverts for their own podcasts made it hard to continue with it.

Could be shorter, 6 episodes would make we more sense. At times it feels like it’s prolonged for no reason.

I really wanted to love this podcast. Fascinating cult, engaging reporter, immersive audio… But to have ads literally every few minutes felt jarring and sleazy and I couldn’t even get through the first episode. Bummer.

Wow what an incredible podcast. Brilliantly put together and narrated. What great research you’ve done, thank you for bringing us this story which of course we remember but so good to hear the in-depth story.

Insane amount of ads, stopped listening after 15 mins. So bad!

A fascinating series. I had heard of Centre Point over the years but near little about it. The series was done excellently and I felt very informed.

Not heard the pod. What’s puts me off this one is the imagery. Old long haired male?? Sorry, just some feedback. Changing the pic might invite more listeners.

Tried to listen - but found the flow constantly broken by ads. Sadly had to give up.

Interesting, honest and hard to ‘put down’. 5 stars from me.

Brilliant production. Very confronting for me as a kid growing up in the late 70’s/early 80’s in a similar environment. It shone a light & provided me much perspective on a very messed up time I had struggled to understand.

I am so interested to hear from the people and feel their stories, but this interviewer keeps cutting out their words and putting his in. Plus happens excessively more when he is interviewing women! I wish he would shut up so I can hear their story.

I enjoyed this so much! Great job! I am from the US and had never heard of this commune. When I finished it, I felt like an expert. Thanks for the great work!!

I’ve really enjoyed listening to this podcast. An important story to tell, and told well from the team at Stuff.

The podcast has a big production value and overall, is done well. A godless cult comprised of sociopaths, who want to indulge their every proclivity. What could go wrong? It bothers me are some of the people being interviewed for the duration of the podcast and how their absolutely horrific...Read full review »

Interesting to hear from members of the commune, great interviews with those involved. Good account of how something goes from a commune to a cult. Lost 1 star because the person narrating is a bit judgemental about stuff that happened many years ago, found that a bit annoying. Also one of the...Read full review »

Very well produced and narrated. Listened to it while painting a nursery and thought how different childhoods can be depending on where you’re born and how you’re bred.

This is an incredibly thorough, professional and fair exploration of the Centrepoint Cult in New Zealand. The 12 episodes are the result of painstaking research and include frank and confronting interviews, which at times are not for the faint hearted. This is a story which must be told, and...Read full review »

I had just finished listening to another podcast from NZ where they advertised this one, however I’ve just stopped listening to it after 20 minutes as there are just way too many add interruptions

Adam and Eugene - congratulations on producing this podcast . Riveting listening. Fantastic narrative and just really well put together. Loved it, Bravo to the producers.

They allow the story to unfold naturally and treat it with care. This one floats atop a sea of gimmicky true crime pods.

Barri, especially, exemplifies the struggle of being a good person in a bad situation. Watching her progression to see the harm around her, trying to take action from within, and then from without, rings so true. So many see good in a thing and want to fix it, but ultimately, when a pervasive...Read full review »

Enjoyed listening to the history and what occurred not only in the commune but in every day life. Their thoughts and attitudes of that time. This is up there as one of the most engaging podcasts I’ve listened to. The story is interesting, sure, but the editing, reporting and narrative is what really brings this to the next level. Decided to listen to this as a change from the kind of podcasts I would normally listen to. Listened to episode 1 and couldn’t stop, I binge listened the whole series in 2 sittings. Engaging, very well presented and researched from the beginning, I can’t recommend it enough

A great report on the cult of centre point told in a way that supports the victims and brushes on the mentality of adults in cults.

I’ve binged this over the last 3 days. I knew nothing about Centrepoint. Really good storytelling, pulling you in so the shocks, when you get to the nub of them, actually made me gasp out loud.

Brilliant reporting, articulate, funny and extremely sensitive to the deep rooted problems of abuse and the familial and friend relationships established, which have been cruelly damaged by the teachings of one narcissistic, paedophile. A study of power and its use and abuse, and how good people so often go along with bad leaders. Why did so many well-educated professionals join Centrepoint, a semi-closed community formed under the leadership of a charismatic, probably sociopathic, sexual predator (Bert Potter)? Why didn’t...Read full review »

This story could have been told in half the time. I think it was too self-indulgent and there were too many side stories. Interesting story but I think it needs to be more punchy.
