“After listening to Jeannie Vanasco’s interview, what struck me the most was her relatability. Even though I have not experienced what she details in her memoir, as a writer I understood what she meant when she said that writing almost made her feel as though she was stepping outside of herself — that she could intellectualize these experiences for the purposes of the book but also distance herself entirely. This was an incredibly nuanced and insightful perspective on such a complicated issue. I thoroughly enjoyed the interviewer’s questions and how they guided the narrative in the direction that the interviewee wanted to take it.
I also enjoy listening to the highlight segments on the podcast as well. This is a great way to digest the information in a more succinct way even if you don’t have time to listen to the entire episode. I especially loved the conversation with Robert Axelrod where he talks about the important intersection of COVID and climate change, and how we can use our critical thinking skills to better analyze these connections.
