The story follows three main characters - Raoden, a prince who is cursed and becomes an Elantrian; Sarene, a princess from the neighboring kingdom of Teod, who arrives in Arelon for an arranged marriage with Raoden; and Hrathen, a religious zealot from a different kingdom who seeks to convert the people of Arelon to his religion. As the characters' paths intertwine, they must navigate political intrigue, religious conflict, and the mysteries of Elantris to save the city and its people. The novel explores themes of faith, perseverance, and the nature of power.
