Born in New Zealand, and with aspirations to join the Air Force, Damian then discovered a passion for fitness & bodybuilding. A stint as a personal trainer led him to a the Todd school of combat, and he trained extensively in hand to hand combat, a skillset that has continued to prove useful for him. Originally joining the Territorial Army in 1997, and deploying to East Timor, Damian transitioned into the regular army, and then onto the NZSAS Selection course. Passing selection for NZSAS Counter Terrorist Team, now known as Commandos and serving 4 years in the NZSAS undertaking counter terror operations, Damian left New Zealand for a new challenge in Australia. 2 years in the police followed, and then another uniform change to the fire service.
