“Dirtbag Diaries still centers most of their stories on the white-male-conquering-nature narrative. It’s tired: mediocre white dudes painting themselves as the star in their own misadventures. But it’s also damaging, especially when it ignores more inclusive narratives, casts women as inferior/weak (oh god that kayaking 2-parter), and indigenous lands as places to bag or summit. (Again, that kayaking 2-parter was the most egregious example. The entitlement and privilege of those bros was nauseating.)”
