Tremendously titillating, bawdy and fun.
This show's secret magic is made up of two key elements. One is the narrator's charming and delightful voice, sharing secrets or a joke with you using modern slang and pop-culture humor to get her point across ("Catherine the Great was like Phoebe from 'Friends'"). At times it's laugh-out-loud hilarious and I have to roll it back a bit to re-listen. The other is that it's obvious Tawny Platis loves her subjects and does her research. You'll get true tales about real people, and some surprising insights. For example, did you know that Julie d'Aubigny duelled three men? At once? The language is somewhat not safe for work, as are some of the topics discussed because, hey, conversations about procreation and proclivities are bound to have some....(you guessed it) Give it a try. I truly suspect you'll enjoy it.

Great show that really brings out the more interesting, but lesser known, bits of history.

This is my new favorite podcast. Tawny is exceptionally entertaining and I love hearing about things that normally aren't heard about. Can't wait for more episodes.Read full review »

I recently listened to an episode with a 21 minute run time. Nearly the first six minutes were thank yous and pleas for ratings and money leaving 15 minutes to tell the story...not counting the end of the episode where further non-story information takes even more away from the subject.
