“I skated once in 1975 when visiting family in Colorado. We moved there in 1976 and I remember you wearing a cowboy hat at some point while coaching the Rockies. I really didn’t know until 1998, after getting a cable package that included the network hosting HNIC, what you meant to Canada, and hockey. I liked how you would say something like, “Hey kids…”, and pass along gameplay wisdom during the first intermission on Saturday nights. I don’t need to have ever played or skated to understand what a great game it is, and you are as iconic in my mind as a John Madden, or a Vin Scully, and the knowledge of a game you love. Keep on keepin’ on. You’re the best, and aside from the actual game, the reason I love it so much. Thank you, sir.”
