Smart and Often Surprising
I was a sometimes-listener for awhile, up until last fall. After a string of incredible, invigorating guests, like Max Alvarez and Amanda Mull, I went back and ran through the whole catalogue, paying much closer attention. I’m so glad I did. I’ve always had a complicated relationship with sports; as a longtime (but mostly passive) fan of several, a former student of one of those Major Sports Universities, etc., I have often been aware of the biggest controversies in (American) sports, but only superficially. End of Sport adds so much depth and complexity such that, despite the title, the show really feels like a general interest podcast. You’ll get critical, thought-provoking perspective on how sports collides with politics, economics, media, and so much else besides — and it’ll make you fume and laugh out loud, by turns. I just can’t recommend it enough.

We can’t ignore the issues of race, inequality, sexism, or the exploitation of athletes, and this podcast tackles those head on, in a space which for many of us is the most uncomfortable to confront...sports. This podcast is necessary listening for all sports fans, coaches, athletes, and academics.

found this podcast recently and it is phenomenal. Johanna, Derek, and Nathan are great scholars and thinkers engaged in the ruthless criticism of all that exists in sport. truly a sports podcast that embodies the spirit of “we live in a society”
