Military Memories - Gina Allsop - Remembrance Day Episode
Listen now
Description
Gina Allsop is a military veteran and adventurer who was supported by the charity SSAFA following a series of traumatic events including the death of her brother to cancer. Inspired to  give back, she undertook a challenge to complete 100 miles for each week of the year, raising over £10000 for the charity in the process. As a way of navigating her grief, Gina also sought solace in writing poetry.  She subsequently came up with the idea of curating a book of poems written by those connected to the Services, as a way to raise funds and awareness of their experiences. Military Memories is a collection of poetry by veterans, serving personnel and their families telling the stories of their lives in the Services and raising money for SSAFA and Sporting Force. In this conversation, Gina shares the motivation behind the project, the challenges she has faced along the way and personal benefits she has experienced through her connections  with the contributors and supporters of the book.
