““Finding Ruby” is an exceptionally well done story that follows a young woman’s journey from victim to freedom, justice, redemption, and forgiveness. Along the way there’s discussion of how and why people get caught up in sex trafficking, as well as how people half a world away get hooked on watching the sexual exploitation of children online.
Although it pops up under the “true crime” label, it’s much more than that. It’s not a whodunnit - we know pretty much from the beginning who the perpetrators are. And there are no gratuitous salacious details about the perpetrators or the victims. It’s about a remarkable, brave teenager and her remarkable, brave attorney who fight for justice for Ruby and other young women for four long years and don’t give up. It’s about the remarkable work of International Justice Mission and how they not only rescue people from these terrible circumstances, but provide workers who come alongside those who’ve been rescued to support them in their recovery.
This is an uplifting, encouraging story that shows that justice is possible if people care enough to fight for it. I’m so glad I discovered it. I’ve already listened to the whole series twice!”
