“Jamie Benning has been working hard to present film history for a couple of decades. I discovered his work with the excellent “Filmumentaries,” he made for Raiders of the Lost Ark and Star Wars. These are annotated versions of the films with trivia and commentary, alternate takes and deleted scenes included. They took a great deal of research and still hold up as good supplemental behind-the-scenes records of their subjects.
In the last couple of years he’s devoted a great deal of time to this one-man podcast that is also well researched and he’s getting access to some legendary creators of some of the best known genre films. I’d recommend you search the episodes for a name you recognize and after you’ve heard that episode or others like it, dive into one of Jamie’s interviews with a name you might not recognize.
The interviewees are fascinating on their own and these longform conversations bring out a myriad of stories. Jamie’s perspective as a working video editor and his fandom make him an excellent interlocutor that makes his subjects open up even further.”
