“Current affairs podcasts are getting so depressing. I have this sort of sense of duty to be aware of why I should be worried about the possibility of Israel and Iran starting a war or how the Taliban overran the Afghan army but it doesn’t put a spring in my step. Even This American Life has lost some of its “wow” factor. But Function Room puts a smile on my face every time. Colm has a voice that subtly instructs you to chill out. I compare it with “You’re Dead to Me” that tries do the same for history. I enjoy the podcasts but there is a sense of desperation to be “fun” that is not there with Colm.
I wish there were more Function Room podcasts but get the feeling that saying “Come on, work harder!” to Colm would be counter productive. Every one on the list is inspired.”
