Join Melissa and Monica as we spend an hour talking with Pete Bethune, Captain of the Ady Gil. Listen as Mr. Bethune discusses his first season with the Sea Shepard crew, the sinking of his boat "The Ady Gil" after being rammed by the Japanese Fishing vessel the Shonen Maru II, the boarding of the Shonen Maru II by Mr. Bethune, then his 5 months in a Japanese prison. In the second hour of the show, we will be joined by Cheryl M. McCormick. Cheryl is the Executive Director for the American Cetacean Society, where she is responsible for developing and managing education, research, and conservation programs aimed at protecting whales, dolphins, porpoises, and the habitats upon which they depend. In this capacity, she is involved in international policies governing commercial whaling, regional maritime policy development to reduce whales/vessel interactions within shipping lanes, and working with national and international NGO’s to address cetacean welfare, and the interaction between anthropogenic influences and environmental dynamics on cetacean conservation and population viability.
