Be careful not to drink too much Koolaid, ladies
I’ve been a big fan of this podcast for ages. I’ve even finally managed to tell Dolly and Pandora’s voices apart! Listening to them discuss serious (often heartbreaking) topics of the day segue way into the ridick has been my backdrop to many entertaining evenings. But this evening, listening to Dolly inform us how misguided JK Rowling is to say that biology is real and how is ‘cisgender’ middle class ladies must educate ourselves by learning from activists like Munroe Bergdorf about trans rights made me really uncomfortable. What is offensive to me is that anyone who doesn’t fully subscribe to Bergdorf’s ideology is now branded as transphobic. Dolly indicated that we all need to come out of our echo chambers. Well can I please challenge her to do the same? There are a growing number of left leaning LGBT supporters who are deeply uncomfortable with where the trans movement is headed. Dolly, do you think that Kelly Holmes, Sharron Davies, Ricky Gervais, James Dreyfus, Victoria Peckham, Hayley Freeman and Sali Hughes (to name a few) are all transphobic? What about the detransitioners who are starting to sue medical authorities for being readily given drugs and life changing surgery without proper checks and balances? To say nothing of the extremely thorny issue of access to women’s spaces (changing rooms, bathrooms, rape shelters, prisons) which are now at risk. Dolly, if you follow one account to educate yourself as you ask your listeners to do: follow Buck Angel, a transman who begs his trans brothers and sisters not to deny biology as this ultimately is true transphobia! Saying trans women are women means there are no trans. Think about it!! And pause to read in full with no prejudice, JK Rowling’s recent essay on the topic. It’s fine if after reading all of that we still don’t agree. But. I’ve got a hunch that in a few years time (when children who were given puberty blockers are suing big pharmaceutical companies) a lot of commentators will quietly delete some of their archive... It would be great for you to have some balance on the podcast and have another voice on this issue, please. Be brave. Be bold. Don’t feel you have to stick to your narrative. Otherwise that is the cancel culture that even Munroe said isn’t helpful.

It's about time we had a podcast where the balance of culture and popular culture is spot on. It's relevant, informative and always funny. It's the kind of show that makes you feel like you're in the pub with your mates having a good chat and picking over the week's events....Read full review »
