Fine if you don’t expect intellectual stimulation
The premise of this podcast is fine, but the hosts are apparently not academically-trained historians. If they were, they might stop superimposing their 21st century midwestern US opinions on everything. A true academic would consider all aspects of the historical context and use his/her knowledge of events, previous interpretations, writings about history, and published works to inform the presentation. These presenters tend to laugh and belittle from “holier than thou” perspective informed only by events of the past few years or their own personal experience. The other incredibly irritating aspect of the dialogue is the terrible grammar used. Every time one of them says “for Beckett and I” or “for Susan and I”, I have to cringe. The inability to present using proper English only undermines the facade of an intellectual discourse. If you want a superficial introduction to historical characters and don’t take this podcast as a serious analysis, it’s for you.

Or maybe just wiser. Either way, love these ladies. They cover an amazing amount of ground in an hour, selecting what to sweep over and what to narrow their focus on. They're personable, smart and funny and I want to have drinks with them.Read full review »
