Excellent and engaging
But some distractingly weird pronunciation. For some reason the presenter frequently replaces short vowels with long vowels, particularly in Latin words/names. Eg consistently pronouncing plebs as “plebes”, Publius as “Pooblius” etc. other Latin words/names are mispronounced or at least the stress is put in the wrong place eg Tarpian instead of Tarpeian. It’s really odd and distracts me from the narrative every time. I’m only 10 eps in so maybe he gets a handle on it over time.

More reviews of The History of Rome
This is an extremely well written and informative podcast. Mike Duncan is not the most engaging audiocaster; however, he presents the material very well. I would like to see more historical material presented this way.

When it comes to a reliable, quality podcast that really sums up a topic for even the most beginner listeners, this is it. The content and delivery are exceptional, and that is the heart of historical podcasts like this one. 5 stars.Read full review »
