Ep. 108 - Dax Pierson

Description
The last time I saw Dax Pierson he was on tour with Subtle in support of their genre-defying debut album 'The New White'. I booked them a show at an all ages DIY venue inside of an old schoolhouse by the beach in Manila, California. After the show, we made the 5 minute drive to Arcata and they slept on my floor. On the verge of making major artistic strides. That was in November of 2004. In 2005, while on another tour, driving on I-80 in Iowa, Subtle's 15 passenger Ford van hit a patch a black ice, lost control, flipped and Pierson's seat became dislodged. From this near fatal tragedy, Dax's spinal injuries rendered him quadriplegia. Our conversation took place in his home studio in North Oakland. We talked the past, present and future. We share some commonalities in our health situations. He was very generous with his time. Dax just released a brand new project, his first in many years titled 'Live In Oakland' on Ratskin Records. You can buy it here (portions are used in the intro and outro of this episode): ratskinrecords.bandcamp.com/album/live-in-oakland
