Early life and education Daniel Lapin is uniquely positioned as a teacher of ancient Jewish wisdom. He was born in Johannesburg, South Africa to a family of Lithuanian Jewish descent. His father, Rabbi A. H. Lapin, a nephew of Rabbi Elya Lopian 1872-1970, served as a prominent and outspoken Orthodox rabbi in Johannesburg and Cape Town, and eventually established an Orthodox synagogue (Am Echad) in San Jose, California. Daniel Lapin studied in yeshivas in Gateshead and Israel, spending time with his great-uncle, and emigrated to the United States in 1973 where together with columnist Michael Medved, he founded the Pacific Jewish Center, a ground-breaking synagogue in Venice, California that encouraged thousands of young Jews to embrace their heritage. In 1992, he and his family relocated to Washington State where he began his work strengthening the Judeo-Christian roots of this country by writing, speaking and standing shoulder to shoulder with prominent Christian leaders, leading to the establishment of the American Alliance of Jews and Christians.
