Today’s guest is, Ms. Ebonie Johnson Cooper, Founder & CEO of the Young, Black & Giving Back Institute (http://www.youngblackgivingback.org), which was established in 2014.
The mission of the institute is to educate, inspire, and empower black Gen-Xers and Millennials to invest in changing their communities through philanthropy.
The institute’s founder, Ms. Johnson-Cooper started “Give 8/28”, a national giving day dedicated to promoting financial support for black-led, black-benefitting grassroots nonprofits. (https://www.give828.org/giving-events/ybgb21). The initiative was started by her in 2018. Last year, “Give 8/28” raised over $250,000. This year’s goal is to raise $500,000!

Ebonie earned a master’s degree in Divinity/Ministry from Wesley Theological Seminary, a Master of Science in Public Relations & Corporate Communications from NYU and a Bachelor of Science in business administration from North Carolina A & T State University.
She is Principal Consultant of Friends of Ebonie, LLC, an adjunct professor at the University of Maryland and a sought-after public speaker.
With her time and talent, Ebonie has created many strategic partnerships for her work including by not limited to Wells Fargo Advisors, IU Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, Johns Hopkins University, Kellogg Foundation, University of Georgia and United Way of the National Capital Area.
