Today’s guest is, Ms. Ebonie Johnson Cooper, Founder & CEO of the Young, Black & Giving Back Institute (http://www.youngblackgivingback.org), which was established in 2014. The mission of the institute is to educate, inspire, and empower black Gen-Xers and Millennials to invest in changing their communities through philanthropy. The institute’s founder, Ms. Johnson-Cooper started  “Give 8/28”, a national giving day dedicated to promoting financial support for black-led, black-benefitting grassroots nonprofits. (https://www.give828.org/giving-events/ybgb21). The initiative was started by her in 2018. Last year, “Give 8/28” raised over $250,000. This year’s goal is to raise $500,000! Listen to Ebonie talk about the mission of YBGB Institute, why black giving is vital to create and sustain thriving communities, why August 28 was chosen as the national black annual giving day, the significance of Give 8/28 and moving equity in philanthropy forward. Ebonie earned a master’s degree in Divinity/Ministry from Wesley Theological Seminary, a Master of Science in Public Relations & Corporate Communications from NYU and a Bachelor of Science in business administration from North Carolina A & T State University. She is Principal Consultant of Friends of Ebonie, LLC, an adjunct professor at the University of Maryland and a sought-after public speaker.
