Host’s Barely Concealed Contempt
C.S. Lewis has for me always been literature for unhurried children - though full of adventure, religious allegory, and Lewis’ deceptively simple sophistication - it has always been a world where good humour, and each person according to their strengths can find a place. So - listening to the host’s banter is what erodes the magic of Narnia in this podcast - Daniel’s barely concealed contempt for his co-host Phil makes me cringe - it’s so at odds with the spirit of Narnia and CS Lewis - Phil seems the sort that would dismiss a person’s heartfelt considerations due to a spelling error - he keeps missing the points Phil is actually trying to make. I recommend rereading the Dawn Treader to get an idea how CS Lewis sees a person who has less than the proper amount of empathy for the other person.
