Tonight on The Last Word: The New York Times is reporting that President Trump suggesting pulling the U.S. out of NATO several times throughout 2018, which a former NATO commander says would be the “gift of the century for Putin.” William Barr, Trump’s nominee for Attorney General, began his confirmation hearings today, and Democratic senators zeroed in on whether he would recuse himself from the Mueller investigation and what he would do with Mueller’s final report. Helene Cooper, Evelyn Farkas, David Frum, Elliot Williams, and Lisa Graves join Lawrence O’Donnell. Senator John Tester also joins to discuss the Senate’s inaction in the hands of Mitch McConnell during the ongoing government shutdown.
