The bastions of a problematic community
These guys really know the lore, and the discussion format can be more informative than some other lore content like YouTube. The lore discussions are informative and they always have someone in the group not as familiar with the topic to help guide the discussion in a beginner friendly manner. HOWEVER, the 40K community has a known issue with extreme far-right members making themselves known. There’s been plenty of scandals about it in the past and Games Workshop has had to come out and condemn it multiple times. This type of game and this type of lore can attract a certain type of person. Obviously not all or even most of the community is like this but it is a significant enough problem that it can deter new people coming to the community. Unfortunately this podcast embodies and vocalizes some of these problematic and antiquated views. This podcasts contains homophobic slurs that if I directly quoted, would result in this comment getting taken down for hate speech. The hosts will (to their credit) disparage genocide, but in the same breath say feminism is just as bad if not worse. I understand to them this might be “edgy” humour but the consistency and earnestness this is conveyed contradicts this. The hosts will repeatedly degrade women and their rights for either a cheap joke or in several occasions, derail the conversation just to let their views be known. The podcast also presents consistent anti trans views, which while not protected by TOS is still something for potential listeners to be aware of. As someone who has many more conservative friends I had thought it’ll just be some light ignorance going on as I had heard these guys could be abhorrent but the consistency and level of vitriole thrown at women, the queer community, and rights organizations was just too much for me to get through. TLDR: This podcast repeatedly makes clear that the hosts do not believe this community should be a safe place for the queer community, (particularly trans people) and women. This is sometimes hidden in jokes attempting to be edgy but other times is just outright stated as truths. The hosts show no improvement as the episodes progress and if you’re genuinely curious about the lore of the universe there are better, more welcoming resources on YouTube and wahapedia.

Love this podcast. You can tell the entire crew loves 40k. They will joke a lot. They will yell at each other often. They will get utterly sidetracked but in the end you can tell these guys love the 40k universe. I listen to each podcast several times.

Started listening from number 1. Just fantastic, between humorous derailments off topic to in depth discussions of 40k lore itself, these guys keep me entertained while hobbying or driving. I just need to catch up with the current releases so I can send them furious emails/messages debating...Read full review »

It’s a great podcast. I learned more about 40k than I ever have anywhere else. Great communication with fans as well. They do tend to get quite size tracked and off topic in their episodes but honestly these little segways are oftentimes just as interesting and if not more than the actual topic...Read full review »
