“Americast was a podcast I looked forward to each week and devoured. I have tried The News Agents since it started, but I’m now finding that I look for other podcasts first.
The relationship and rapport between Maitlis and Sopel is as good as ever, and it works well - they are great journalists who bring something extra out in each other. The trouble for me is that The News Agents feels more like The Lewis Goodall Show, with special guests Emily Maitlis and Jon Sopel.
At the start, Goodall’s role was introduced as someone who helped bring context to stories. As the podcast has developed, he’s now the dominant voice. It also seems impossible for him to finish a sentence without saying ‘Right?’ - which now grates on me so much that I sometimes abandon the episode. It doesn’t help that I sometimes find his tone a bit smug.
It used to work so well with the Zurch - the balance between the presenters was so complimentary and natural. But this feels off, and I just wish there was more of a focus on Maitlis and Sopel again.”

I may have to subscribe, though, because the spurious claims of the BT adverts are infuriating. My advice to anyone is to avoid BT like the plague - as an organisation they are incompetent and uncaring.”
