Sicky Sweet
This story is well read by LuRae Montgomery for USF.edu, however it is a very light story similar in style to Rebecca of Sunnybrooke Farm or Anne of Green Gables, but not as well done. The protagonists are four distinct, genteel personalities with almost no real gumption, artificially 'girly' responses to reptiles, and nothing very bad happens (or will ever happen) to them. Their foils are almost entirely of their own making, yet they don't seem to learn anything from them, so there is no development in the characters. The descriptions of Florida are romanticized at best, and at worst, inaccurate. For example, alligators do not stick around at the approach of a motorized boat - not then and not now. The point of having this book on audio is lost on me, for it seems like the author never visited or experienced Florida, only saw pictures of it. In summary, this book is probably not worth anyone's time.
