Drafting RBs high?
Hey I am a vegetable farmer, packer fan. Love the show, Listen every week in the fields. We are intensive farmers growing many different crops in a small area. Been considering the use of efficiency metrics to evaluate crops. For instance, square foot days: dollar value of crop/sq foot of planted space and how many days those sq ft are occupied. Systems are complicated so there are a lot of other variables but it’s fascinating to consider. We can use that info to best use space. Either way that’s not my question. I’m considering the packers and chiefs getting high-round rbs. Packers feel good about their developing receivers eq, mvs, lazard, kumerow and begelton. Chiefs same type of situation except their receivers are better. Maybe teams that are trying to “win now” are drafting cheap young talent at rb who can come in and play early on and have success. Not wait 1-3 years for development of more valuable position players. Obv not achieving maximum value from those draft picks but sort of playing it safe to get someone who can contribute right away for a cheap price. Any data to suggest that this makes sense? Is there good data on what WAR rookie wrs and te’s contribute in year 1 vs rb’s? Are receivers more valuable in 1- or 2-year window? And if so how often are they more valuable than the average high-round rookie rb WAR in year one? 30% of the time? Or this just a bad move full stop? Been puzzled by the packers draft and other similar moves around the league. Thanks. twitter @hogmaninhogland

Hey guys, love the pod! Building off of the NFL are-draft, and because George likes drafting so much, I think it would be cool if you guys redrafted some past draft classes, like 2014-2017 range.

Love the show. You get the unfiltered riffing on football from the data science perspective. They can be a bit hardline in that direction, but you can always tell they love the game, love talking about it, and enjoy each other, which leads to great chemistry. Plus for all their focus on the data...Read full review »

I first heard George and Eric on Soren Petro’s show and they quickly became my favorite guests. Their conversations are excellent and smart. It doesn’t feel like snobby stat nerds it feels much more like guys sitting and talking in a bar. The guys have great ideas and concepts.
