“This delightful series of podcasts throws open a window on poetry and people, rather than poetry and the literature professor or poetry and the learned. The Poetry Exchange team have found people from various walks of life, and at various stages of the walk through life, who, as guests in interview, discuss with them what particular poems ("friends") have meant to each guest, for whatever reason. Each episode focuses on a single poem and has its own tempo and direction. The format of the interview could easily be extended, in future series, to cover other ways of reading and appreciating poetry, beyond the idea of poems as friends, for example: poems as confrontation with the unexpected, poems as linguistic acrobatics, poems as salvation ("Last night a poet/poem saved my life..."), and so on and so forth. I look forward to more of this kind of podcast.”
