Icky.
This podcast was the first one I ever joined the Patreon for. I constantly was posting on the podcast subreddit singing their praises as a silly, lighthearted show for people who loved to talk pop culture. Unfortunately, I feel like the vibe has shifted over the past several months and I ended up canceling my membership. It came to a head for me during the “Where’s Kate?” episode, complete with her on a milk carton in the promo pic. I had to stop listening halfway through, and thought maybe it’s just because I’m British-American and probably have a different emotional tie to Kate and their kids. It made me feel icky to hear the laughter and “glee” as a fellow listener put it in discussing possible divorce and mistress scandals. Yes, these people are in the public eye so speculation on their personal lives comes with it. But it was obvious to anyone paying attention whatever was coming from Kate would probably not be good news. After the announcement, several people took to instagram to express their disappointment in the episode, and the PMG responses broke my heart. A simple, “yikes guys, that didn’t age well. We’re sorry and we wish her the best” would have been appropriate. But they continued to double-down, and even ended a snarky comment with “pip pip cheerio” which just felt like they were taking the piss out of people’s honest concerns. It was to the point where people were actually asking if Kate’s video could be trusted or was it somehow another piece in the RF “plot”. The fact that one of your listeners could see that video and think that Kate was lying because of what they heard on your podcast should cause you, at the very least, pause. It does look like they addressed this is the latest episode, but from what I can tell it’s behind a paywall. The “try our paid levels free for seven days so you can hear our reactions” didn’t land well. Just sad and disappointed. Hoping this is something Jamie and Erin can learn from.

If you love America, dislike the Kardashians, and enjoy your pop culture debates with a side of wisdom and hilarity, this podcast is for you! The Popcast Podcast doesn’t debase itself by covering horrible reality television and its many “stars”. Rather, Jamie Golden and Knox McCoy give...Read full review »

My husband and I LOVE listening to The Popcast together. When we are having art night or taking a road trip, The Popcast is on. Knox and Jamie are hilariously opinionated and have great chemistry. The Popcast is my go-to source for everything pop culture! So fun to be a listener!
