As essential to Middle-Earth as Sam was to Frodo
A friend of mine recommended this to me under the guise of ‘The Rings of Power Wrap Up’ and we were both hooked. We would watch the show and then wait for the podcast to come out as it would analyse all the nuances we would miss. Cue then taking on for the first time ever, JRR Tolkien’s The Silmarillion. Hands down I would not have made it past the first two chapters if I didn’t have these gentlemanly scholars guiding me. The insight they bring is unfathomable and I have no idea how two people know so much about Tolkien’s lore and world without being Tolkien! Words cannot do this podcast justice and I have recommended it to all people I meet (not just friends) who have an interest in Tolkien. Once you’ve listened to it, you’ll wonder how you ever read Tolkien alone before.

The show has a nice blend of academic discussion with beer and...Read full review »

Listening to Alan and Shawn walk through the texts (currently The Silmarillion) is to re-experience the wonder of the first read....Read full review »
