“Their advice is what Gradschool does not want you to know not only once you are in there, but also before you join. Had I listened to this podcast before joining gradschool, I would have had a chance to stay put where I was instead of thinking that those three magic letters after my name would have redefined me and given me intellectual satisfaction and a better career. Maybe I would have stayed put where I was, and never gotten a phD. Fine--it would not have made me any worse to be less specialized. Or maybe I would have done it anyway, but I would have been on the driverseat in deciding the skills to learn.”
