“If there was a Podcastery Olympiad, and there should be, surely The Promised Podcast(tm) would win a silver medal in synchronized verbosity, only second to its friends at Judaism Unbound and Treyf. This podcast has been a nice way for me to stay in touch with Israeli politics while I sit in my Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn apartment. It miraculously maintains my appreciation for Israeliness, which I otherwise would possibly struggle to keep, as a Jew who is almost always disappointed with Israel’s political choices.
Indeed, I have a lot to thank this podcast for, and I have grown fond of Noah, Allison, Don, and Miriam even when I disagree with their opinions.
My only true gripe, and the reason it’s not a 5 star review, is something I’ve noticed recently. They started including new topics for their financial supporters via Patreon, which have often been particularly interesting topics. This strikes me as an exclusionary step and frustrating for people like me, who need to pick carefully about what specific cases to support. I can appreciate the desire to reach out for donations, but I think an organization must be careful about how they do so and what ways they exclude those who don’t support them.
Otherwise, I encourage you to listen to the podcast, visit the Rosa Parks bar in Tel Aviv (which I hope to do one day), and even donate if you feel so moved. If you do get to donate, perhaps you will get a chance to know about their thoughts regarding Yossi Klein Halevi’s new book and their opinions of IfNotNow’s Birthright protests. As a member of IfNotNow who is reading Halevi’s book, I wish I could join you.”
