Comfort and Joy
I have been meaning to write a review of The Promised Podcast for a long time but could never quite come up with just the right sentiment to express why it means so much to me until this week. After a long and stressful few days, I went to my feed with great anticipation to listen to Noah, Allison and Don as a stipulating and joyful escape and realized it was Wednesday and the pod wouldn’t arrive until the next day. It was then I realized it’s key meaning for me and I had the theme of this review. It is extremely COMFORTING to have these smart, generous, empathetic and alert folks standing sentry all the time and providing such well reasoned, informed deeply felt views about all things politics social and cultural in Israel and beyond. Their commitment and sacrifice to study and intellect and learning is also comforting in a world that seems to be given more and more to commercial exchange. It is comforting to know that each week I can count on being reassured that these values are alive and well through their outstanding presentations. And of course, the podcast is always teaching and introducing us to wonderful people and books and music that we may never have otherwise encountered. Perhaps best of all, is the wonderfully inspired “what a country” segment at the end of each episode that always provides sweet, human observations of a beautiful country that is often known to us in the diaspora only through reports of politics and war. I admit that sometimes I skip straight to that segment and pass on the politics. Please keep it coming.
