“I like how adamant Dr Barrett is to ground psychology in the body, the physiology and biology. I’m always interested how the brain interprets these experiences and sensations and models them all into a context or perceived identity. I agree with her that we learn and grow in relationship. So ultimately what I believe all of this discussion points to must be the emphasis not so much on the emotions but the ability to COMMUNICATE our emotions to another and so each of us must be in touch with our biology and physiology. This will more accurately reveal ourselves in a more conscious and authentic way. If we respond with how we experience the tug in our chest at the time of stress the “other” is more likely to resonate, understand and relate. The result is a release of stress. I’m glad a scientist is backing this path of mindfulness that we have known for a long time in Chinese medicine and Buddhist philosophy.”
