“I have a lifelong interest in keeping up with current events. Even as a child, My Mother recalled that I would come home from school, exchange the normal greetings and move immediately to ask “What happened in the world today?” After her day at home with the radio on, she was adept at reciting a list of events, but I always wanted to know as much relevant detail as possible. With a keen interest in politics and living in Northern Virginia and Maryland, we read the Washington Post, watched the local and national evening news each night, and many family mealtimes were spent on great conversations, sometimes debates even, and usually with more time and attention spent talking than on the actual meal. So, I have been “grown and gone” from all of that for more than fifty years. Nothing, no news media combination, no morning or evening news is able to deliver the full story of current vital events (aka “the goods”) like Rachel Maddow. She is brilliant, articulate, deliberate, and has the insatiable curiosity for the whole story, not just the headlines. She is committed to doggedly search for the details, the critical back story, the relationships that tie the characters together, and she gathers ALL of the missing pieces to help us see the bigger picture. Sometimes an event is so complex and the facts so convoluted that getting the facts, finding the truth, can take more than one episode. She doesn’t hesitate to continue her reporting until the process is complete. I believe that Rachel Maddow is a gift to all who want answers based on truth. In this, our nation’s bizarre political Four Year Nightmare, we need The Rachel Maddow Show more than ever. I rely on hearing what you have to say to keep me from the despair that so many Americans feel while it is impossible to trust our lying (will he have 10,000 verified lies by April Fool’s Day?), yes, our lying, illiterate, misogynist, racist, and pathological narcissist president & his goofball cabinet, appointees, & those shamefully sold-out Republicans in Congress to protect and preserve our Democracy. We should be terrified, and I assure you, we are. Please don’t stop or even pause what you are doing for all of us. Thank you.
